I got started in photography when I was a young teen. I started out with a small, Canon, point and shoot camera. I began with taking pictures of nature such as butterflies, flowers, and sunsets. Friends began begging me to try snapping a few shots of people, I was reluctant at first though because there is so many things you have to make sure are right while taking pictures of people. After a few shoots though, I began to love taking photos of people and people loved my photos also. I soon upgraded cameras to my first DSLR Camera. I attended a photography camp through SOCAPA in Brooklyn, NY and fell more in love with photography. I craved more knowledge of photography so I proceeded to take more classes in my hometown. By now I was sure that I wanted to make photography more than just a hobby, I wanted to make it my life. Shortly after I created my own business, Michaela Horstman Photography.
